Wilfords To Sponsor Barnes Charity Fashion Show, Again

BARNES HAS ALWAYS LOOKED AFTER ITS OWN. FOR FIFTEEN YEARS, THE BARNES CHARITY FASHION SHOW HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST TANGIBLE EXPRESSIONS OF THAT INSTINCT, BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER EACH AUTUMN FOR AN EVENING THAT MANAGES TO BE GENUINELY FUN AND GENUINELY GOOD IN EQUAL MEASURE.

We are proud to return, this time as headline sponsors, alongside the Barnes Community Association, and even prouder that this is a partnership now entering its second year. We sat down recently with chairperson Sandy Urquhart to talk through what makes the show tick, what is in store for October, and why an event run entirely by volunteers has raised over £130,000 for local causes since it began.

How did the show begin?

The show has been running for fifteen years now, which is a remarkable thing when you consider that it is entirely volunteer-led. It began as a way of celebrating Barnes High Street retailers while raising money for local charities, and that dual purpose is really what has kept it going. It is not one thing or the other. It is both, and the combination works.

Where does it all happen?

St Mary’s Church Barnes is the venue, which gives the whole evening a setting that no function room could replicate. The catwalk runs through the church, the lighting is beautiful, and there is something about the space that makes the whole occasion feel a little more special than a conventional fashion event. The pre-show and after-show take place in Kitson Hall, which gives people the chance to meet the retailers, browse, and make a few purchases in a more relaxed setting.

Who is on the catwalk this year?

The 2026 line-up is a strong one. Caroline Bloomfield, Dilli Grey, A J Gretton, And After, The WOS and Ridley are all taking part, which between them covers everything from beautifully crafted millinery to wardrobe staples, designer pieces and occasion wear. It is the kind of edit that reflects Barnes itself: considered, independent, and with a real point of view. The show is a genuine platform for these retailers and the exposure it gives them over the two nights matters.

And the charities this year?

The proceeds are split between three causes that are deeply embedded in the local community: St Mary’s Barnes, FiSH, and Home Start. All three do vital work in SW13 and the surrounding area, and all three are the kind of organisations that rely on exactly this sort of community support to keep going. That is really the heart of it.

What can people expect on the night?

Two evenings, each with over 450 tickets across both nights. Catwalk, dancing, styling tips, entertainment, and champagne. It is a proper night out. Sandy is clear that the atmosphere is as much the point as the fashion itself. People come back year after year because it feels like an occasion, and because everyone in the room is there for the same reasons.

Why does it work so well?

Barnes, says Sandy, is a place where people genuinely help one another. The show is run by volunteers who give their time because they believe in what it stands for, and that comes through on the night. There is no commercial machinery behind it. It is a community doing what communities do best.

For Wilfords, sponsoring the Barnes Charity Fashion Show is not a difficult decision. It is exactly the kind of event we want to be part of: local, independent, well run and genuinely rooted in the neighbourhood we are proud to work in. We will be there in full force across both evenings this October, and we hope to see many of you there too.

The Barnes Charity Fashion Show takes place on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th October at St Mary’s Church Barnes. Tickets are available now at barnescharityfashionshow.com.
