Many Londoners tend to avoid Portobello Market at the weekends – too full of tourists buying antiques and trying to find the bookshop run by Hugh Grant in Notting Hill. At the north end of Portobellow Road, further than most tourists ever venture, this short street is where you’ll find those in the know on a Friday and Saturday, browsing the kerbside bric-a-brac stalls and hunting for interiors treasure at the various antique furniture shops.
